Fly Fishing Academy Reports

10 December 2006

The annual Fur and Feather bank match was held at Pitsford on Sunday. 41 Anglers fished in mild winter conditions. 27 fish were caught on a variety of methods, but black and green lures fished on a floating line or an intermediate line with a white booby were the most successful. Winner was Graham Cooper from Braunston in Rutland with four fish for 9lb 12oz. Second place went to Mark Haycock with three fish for 6lb 7oz. All caught on an intermediate and booby. He fished on the flats near the overflow and caught his fish quickly in the afternoon. Pip Jeffs took third place with three fish for 6lb. Gary Cooper came fourth with 1 fish for 5lb and fifth place went to Ray Storer with three fish for 4lb 2oz. With Christmas fast approaching it was a good opportunity for anglers to get into the seasonal swing. The prizes for the top five anglers were hampers full of seasonal goodies and everyone enjoyed a hearty meal. 1st Graham Cooper 4 fish for 9lb 12oz 2nd Mark Haycock 3 fish for 6lb 7oz 3rd Pip Jeffs 3 fish for 6lb 4th Gary Cooper 1 fish for 5lb 5th Ray Storer 3 fish for 4lb 2oz

Week ending 19th November 2006

Fish for week 99(season15,544) returns 66 (5,067)

Terry Easey of Cambridge landed the best fish of the week – a super 10lb 6oz rainbow. Terry is a season ticket holder and he used a green booby and an intermediate line to take the fish from the bank. Boat anglers are making the most of the last few days of boat fishing, which ends on 25 November. Season ticket holder Peter Proctor from Leighton Buzzard and his friend Mr King had a good day catching 10 fish and returning four. Mr King from Cambridge had two rainbows at 6lb 6oz and 6lb 12oz. Dave Kennell of Nuneaton also had a good bag of fish on minkies including rainbows of 5¼lb and 4½lb. Best area is the Main Bowl. Minkies, black and green lures on intermediates (or when using the rudder tube flies) are the best methods. Bank fishing is improving with Pitsford Creek and the Pines being the favoured areas. Small lures and minkies on floating or intermediate lines are catching the fish from the bank.
